A shipment greater than 5,000 lbs, 6 pallets or more and taking up 12 to 32 linear feet of trailer space qualifies as Volume LTL. Shipping as volume LTL will usually come with a lessor “spot quote” for pricing and will be moved as capacity allows. Your freight will most likely be transferred from the original pick up trailer and will be moved with an LTL carrier. This comes in handy for freight that does not have time restraints for delivery.
Partial truckloads are usually over 6 pallets but less than a full load. This method of shipping allows your freight to stay on the same truck for the duration of transit. Partials are moved using a truckload carrier and therefore transit times are better than shipping volume LTL. Your pricing will be based on the amount of space and transit time you require.
